JME Commentaries

Feature Articles represent the best of the best in terms of quality and attempts to move the field forward. We are now aiming to advance this by inviting authors to give new and unique perspectives on these existing fundamental concepts. If you would like to be alerted when a Feature Article is published so that you can submit a proposal for a commentary to the editors, sign up here. Feature Articles will also be announced via the JME’s Twitter account @JME_BMJ Commentary Author Instructions A Commentary should have a word count of between 500 and 1,000 words, up to 2 tables/illustrations and up to 10 references. To have your Commentary considered for publication, please submit your proposal via the online submission system here. Start a new submission and at Stage 1, Type, click the “Commentary” option. Proposals should consist of a short (~150 word) description of the main point to be made in the commentary, how it will engage directly with a point or argument made in the feature article, and a 1-2 sentence description of background of the proposed author(s). For example, “[Name] is an [assistant professor] in [religious studies] at [institution] whose research/practice focuses on [insert relevant comments to topic at hand].” In order to ensure that the commentaries are published in the same edition as the Feature Article, the deadlines for submissions are fixed and extensions cannot be granted. The editors also reserve the right not to publish a full commentary submission if it falls below the standard expected for the JME.
